| HISTORY|
Neville lived with his parents until he was almost two years of age, until Frank and Alice Longbottom were tortured to insanity by Death Eaters (Bellatrix, Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange, and Barty Crouch Jr). Neville was then looked after by his Gran, his closest living relative, until she was killed in a raid on Diagon Alley during the war, when he was eighteen. He thus inherited her house and money, but has put the house to one side for the future, and has used his Grandmother's money to make significant donations to the foundation supporting the anti-Plague research. His parents still live in St. Mungos Hospital, but in a clean, secure ward that disallows visitors. As a result, he has not seen them since the outbreak of the Plague.

After Hogwarts, Neville took a graduate degree in Herbology, mostly to annoy his Gran, who wanted him to become an Auror. Some of his friends also pointed out to him that he could go down that path, since by sixth year he was the third most proficient of the DA after Harry and Hermione (OotP chapter 21). He refused, however, to take NEWT Potions, and therefore had few options. He gained honours in his degree and is now a Herbology consultant for the hospital by owl. He receives on average two owls per week, and gets paid 20 Galleons for each successful consult.
While Harry, Ron and Hermione were off finding Horcruxes, Neville agreed to be Harry's eyes and ears at Hogwarts. During the holidays and in the months after his graduation leading up to Voldemort's demise, he joined the Order in the minor battles against the Death Eaters, on Harry's recommendation. That life never much agreed with him, however, and he only ever uses battle curses in self-defence.

He shares his runner's tent with Ron Weasley, since Ron is the only one used to his snoring enough to be able to sleep through it. In his spare time he studies Potions, and finds it a lot more agreeable when Snape isn't teaching it. :</b>
